Measuring for a Harness

Measuring Diagram

It is important to have a correctly fitted harness for your dog. Follow the instructions below and complete all of the information on your order form. Measure carefully.

Neck: Measure from the withers at the base of the neck (A) to the top of the breast bone (B). Compress your dog's fur against the body of your dog as you measure. Measure one side only, not all the way around. You are measuring exactly how the harness neck will lie on your dog.

Length: For the Yukon and X-Back sledding harnesses, measure from the top of the breast bone (B) between the front legs as shown by the arrow in the diagram. Following the rib cage, come out to the dog's side and up to the base of the tail (C).

For the Icelandic Weight Pull and Sierra Drafting harnesses, measure from the top of the breastbone (B) between the front legs. Following the rib cage, come out to the dog's side and straight to the back of the rear leg (D).

Chest: For the Sierra Drafting harness, please measure around your dog's chest at its deepest point.

Weight: Don't guess; please weigh your dog.

The following charts are guidelines for measuring. If your measurements do not fall within the following guidelines, first check your measurements. If you still find them to be different than those listed below, your dog probably requires a custom harness. We are happy to make a custom harness but there is an additional charge of $10 to $15 per harness. Custom harnesses cannot be returned or exchanged.
